About the Opportunity

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services now has an opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join their team in Broome, WA on a full-time fixed term basis until June 2021 with a possibility to extend another 12 months.

KAMS Occupational Therapist is a key part of our Allied Health team supporting the Kimberley region, based in Broome/Kununurra. This team will engage with children aged 0-7 years with development delay and perform short-term therapy. You will have access to the latest technology to work flexibly and support our clients in their homes, pre-school and community settings. You will also provide parents/carers with the knowledge, skills and supports to optimise their child's development and ability to participate inclusively within the wider community.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • The Occupational Therapist will provide clinical services to children aged 0-7 as presented.
  • The Occupational Therapist will provide evidence-based care within a multidisciplinary and family centred context, and utilise holistic therapy models of care.
  • Planning, development and evaluation of occupational therapy services.
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of culturally appropriate policies, procedures and practice guidelines for patient care.

What you'll need to be successful

To be considered for this position, you must have a tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and eligible for registration by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

You must have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the public and a diverse range of health and community service providers

Your knowledge of Aboriginal culture and Indigenous health will be crucial to your success in the role, in addition to an understanding of the primary health care and population health issues that affect Aboriginal and Indigenous peoples.

You must possess experience providing therapy to children and young people and with specialist knowledge of developmental delay and disability and experience developing and reviewing intervention plans.

While not mandatory, previous knowledge and understanding of the issues and barriers families with disabilities face will be highly advantageous to your application.

Please note: You must possess a current Australian C Class Driver's Licence and Current professional registration with AHPRA

For your hard work and dedication to this role, you will receive a base salary of $105,000 + super. 

In addition to this salary, you will have access to a further host of benefits, including:

  • Accommodation allowance of $13,000;
  • Electricity allowance of $1,440 p.a;
  • Access to an annual airfare after 12 months of employment to the value of $1,881 p.a; and,
  • District allowance of $3,569 p.a. (single) or $7,138 p.a. (double);
