Broome is located 2,240km north of Perth and has a permanent population of 14,436. Roebuck Bay is known as one of the most beautiful beaches that surrounds Broome, with its “Staircase to the moon” phenomenon drawing food and craft markets each time it occurs. The combination of a receding tide and rising moon create a natural phenomenon that can only be described as breath-taking.

About the Opportunity

KAMS is seeking a passionate, culturally informed and highly organised Kimberley Men’s Health Coordinator to lead the development, coordination and implementation of initiatives that improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal men across the Kimberley.

Based in Broome, this strategic role will work across KAMS and in partnership with Member Services, Aboriginal communities, the Kimberley Regional Aboriginal Men’s Health Sub-Committee (KRAMHS) and external partners to strengthen and progress men’s health priorities across the region.

The Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of the KRAMHS Health Strategy, annual work plans and priority initiatives, ensuring activities are aligned with the KRAMHS Strategic Plan and responsive to the needs and priorities identified by Aboriginal men and communities.

A key component of the role will include building strong relationships and supporting meaningful consultation and engagement with Aboriginal men, including those living in remote communities. The position will contribute to the development of culturally safe, innovative and community-driven approaches to men's health activities and provide first hand knowledge obtained through community engagement on encouraging Aboriginal men to adopt a proactive mindset in being the drivers of health and wellbeing improvements for themselves and their families.

The role will also provide strategic coordination and secretariat support to the Kimberley Regional Aboriginal Men’s Health Sub Committee, ensuring members are informed of planned initiatives, priorities and opportunities, and supporting effective collaboration and implementation across the region.

The Coordinator will contribute to health promotion and wellbeing initiatives, funding opportunities, health data and reporting, community events, workforce development, project management, evaluation & continuous improvement and supporting the ongoing identification of Kimberley Aboriginal men’s health priorities.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can bring together strategic planning, project coordination, community engagement and culturally informed health promotion to support meaningful improvements in the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal men across the Kimberley.

To be successful you will need:

• Demonstrated leadership and experience in the planning, delivery, management, reporting and evaluation of Men’s Health programs and services.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting the health and wellbeing of Kimberley Aboriginal people, communities and culture.
• Experience in developing, implementing, reporting and evaluating community based health promotion programs and health promotion resources for use in cross cultural settings.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team particularly in remote settings.

KAMS is looking for candidates with well-developed interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills and the ability to maintain client confidentially at all times within and outside the workplace. Ideally, you will have experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation or an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community Organisation, however, this is not mandatory.

Please Note: A 'C' Class Driver's License, Federal Police Clearance and willingness to travel often by 4WD vehicle and light aircraft will be required.

• Salary packaging;
• Accommodation Allowance - $13,000 p.a pro rata;
• District allowances - $2,920 single $5,840 double p.a pro rata;
• Electricity Allowance - $1,440 p.a pro rata;
• 5 weeks annual leave; and
• Annual Airfares to the value of $1,285 pa (after 12 months of employment).
