About Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services
Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS was formed to provide a unified voice for Aboriginal health and well-being, and to deliver centralised resources and collective advocacy in partnership with its Member Services. KAMS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of Aboriginal health leaders from across its Member Services.
Our vision is that all Kimberley Aboriginal people are empowered to be strong, healthy, and connected through Aboriginal community-controlled services. Our purpose is to deliver holistic health and well-being outcomes in partnership with Aboriginal-led organisations, centred around Aboriginal culture and knowledge.

Position Overview
The Diabetes Educator will be based in Kununurra on a Full-time basis. You will focus on delivering diabetes education aimed at preventing diabetes and its related complications. This role emphasises a supported self-management approach, engaging individuals and their families in the Kimberley region.
This position requires collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, including KAMS teams, community members, and health organisations, to ensure effective service delivery and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive diabetes education services tailored to individual and community needs, focusing on Type 1, Type 2, gestational diabetes, and pre-diabetes.
- Implement evidence-based practises and maintain professional development to enhance service delivery.
- Promote collaborative decision-making with multidisciplinary teams and engage in regular team meetings.
- Coordinate health promotion activities and community engagement efforts to raise awareness and support diabetes management.
- Develop and monitor quality improvement initiatives for effective service delivery and integration of diabetes programs into primary health care.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a dynamic and culturally competent professional who is passionate about improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities through diabetes education and prevention.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field with a Postgraduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and current AHPRA registration.
- Credentialed Diabetes Educator status with ADEA or actively working towards it.
- Experience in providing culturally safe diabetes education and ability to adapt to clients' needs.
- Proven skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating diabetes programs in a community setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Current National Police Certificate and Western Australian Working with Children’s Check.
Salary & Benefits
This position offers a competitive base salary of $117,495 per annum pro rata, along with additional benefits including:
- Accommodation Allowance of $13,000 per annum pro rata.
- Annual Airfare of $1,800 after 12 months of service.
- District Allowance of $2,920 (single) or $5,840 (double) per annum pro rata.
- Electricity Allowance of $1,440 per annum pro rata.
- Optional Salary Sacrifice up to $30,000 per annum pro rata.
