Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS was formed to provide a unified voice for Aboriginal health and wellbeing, and to deliver centralised resources and collective advocacy in partnership with its Member Services. KAMS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of Aboriginal health leaders from across its Member Services.
Our vision is that all Kimberley Aboriginal people are empowered to be strong, healthy, and connected through Aboriginal community-controlled services.
Our purpose is to deliver holistic health and wellbeing outcomes in partnership with Aboriginal-led organisations, centred around Aboriginal culture and knowledge.

Position Overview
The Cancer Support Officer will be based in Broome, WA on a full time basis. This position focuses on cancer screening support, care coordination, clinical monitoring, treatment navigation, follow-up, survivorship and palliative support. The Cancer Support Officer works collaboratively with the Cancer Care Team under the clinical guidance of the Cancer Support Lead and alongside the Health Promotion Officer to deliver high-quality, continuous and culturally appropriate care across the cancer care continuum.
Key Responsibilities
The Cancer Support Officer will be responsible for the following:
- Deliver evidence-based nursing care and clinical support for clients with cancer.
- Organise community-led health promotion events and education campaigns related to cancer.
- Assist with cancer screening activities and follow-up in remote communities.
- Coordinate client appointments and transport to services, ensuring comprehensive support.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and data collection for program evaluation.
- Engage in multidisciplinary team meetings to foster collaborative care.
- Participate in local and national cancer awareness events.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a motivated individual who is passionate about improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
- Demonstrated clinical experience in cancer care or chronic disease management.
- Commitment to culturally safe practises and Aboriginal Community Control.
- Strong communication, organisational, and teamwork skills.
- Valid C Class Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel regularly.
- Current National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one.

Salary & Benefits
This position offers a base salary of $123,901 per annum pro rata along with additional benefits including:
- Accommodation Allowance: $13,000 per annum (pro rata)
- District Allowance: $2,149 (Single) or $4,298 (Double) per annum (pro rata)
- Electricity Allowance: $1,400 per annum (pro rata)
- Annual Airfare Benefit: $1,285 per annum (available after 12 months of continuous service)
- Salary Packaging: Access to generous salary packaging benefits of up to $30,000 per annum, allowing you to increase your take-home pay through tax-effective arrangements.
Please note that this position is offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 12 months.
