Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS was formed to provide a unified voice for Aboriginal health and wellbeing, and to deliver centralised resources and collective advocacy in partnership with its Member Services. KAMS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of Aboriginal health leaders from across its Member Services.

Our vision is that all Kimberley Aboriginal people are empowered to be strong, healthy, and connected through Aboriginal community-controlled services. 
Our purpose is to deliver holistic health and wellbeing outcomes in partnership with Aboriginal-led organisations, centred around Aboriginal culture and knowledge.

Position Overview

Youth Mental Health Professional (YMHP) at headspace Broome will be based in Broome. WA, on a Full-time basis. This role will play a vital role in delivering quality mental health care focused on young individuals aged 12-25. This position emphasises a holistic and culturally responsive approach, providing assessment, early intervention, and therapeutic support for youth facing mental health challenges.

Your efforts will contribute to creating a welcoming environment where young people feel safe and understood. You will work collaboratively within integrated care streams, defining care plans, conducting risk assessments, and promoting resilience among young individuals while engaging with their families and support networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify biopsychosocial concerns among young clients.
  • Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions and supportive counselling.
  • Facilitate psychoeducation and skill-building sessions on topics such as coping strategies and conflict resolution.
  • Engage with diverse backgrounds and cultures, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for integrated care planning.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with reporting requirements.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications and eligibility for professional registration in relevant disciplines (Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist).
  • Experience providing evidence-based therapies such as CBT and Narrative Therapy to young people.
  • Ability to conduct psychosocial assessments and identify treatment needs.
  • Strong knowledge of social and emotional wellbeing issues affecting youth, particularly in Aboriginal communities.
  • Proven experience in family-inclusive practise and working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills to connect with young individuals effectively.
  • Strong organisational skills and proficiency in using technology for documentation.
  • Current driver’s licence, National Police Clearance, and Working with Children Check.

Salary & Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary package valued at up to $116,999 per annum plus super, comprising:

  • Base Salary range: $90,929 – $95,474 per annum (pro rata)
  • Accommodation Allowance: $13,000 per annum (pro rata)
  • District Allowance: $2,920 (Single) or $5,840 (Double) per annum (pro rata)
  • Electricity Allowance: $1,400 per annum (pro rata)
  • Annual Airfare Benefit: $1,285 per annum (available after 12 months of continuous service)
  • Salary Packaging: Access to generous salary packaging benefits of up to $30,000 per annum, allowing you to increase your take-home pay through tax-effective arrangements.
