Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS was formed to provide a unified voice for Aboriginal health and well-being, and to deliver centralised resources and collective advocacy in partnership with its Member Services. KAMS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of Aboriginal health leaders from across its Member Services.

Our vision is that all Kimberley Aboriginal people are empowered to be strong, healthy, and connected through Aboriginal community-controlled services. Our purpose is to deliver holistic health and well-being outcomes in partnership with Aboriginal-led organisations, centred around Aboriginal culture and knowledge.

KAMS is a proud member of the Aboriginal Health Council of WA (AHCWA), the Council of Aboriginal Services Western Australia (CASWA), and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO).

Position Overview

The Student Well-being Support Officer will be based in Broome on a Full-time basis. You will play a pivotal role in promoting and enhancing the well-being of students within KAMS workforce programs. This position will collaborate with the Workforce team to create an environment that supports the emotional, physical, and academic well-being of all students, ensuring their successful engagement and outcomes.

In this capacity, you will serve as a primary point of contact for students, providing guidance and support while connecting them with necessary resources. Your proactive approach will focus on implementing well-being programs and activities that address the diverse needs of students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver well-being and mental health programs that support students’ social, emotional, and educational development.
  • Provide short-term counselling support and case management for students facing personal and academic challenges.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, Member services, and community members to promote a supportive environment.
  • Organise engaging sessions and workshops that empower students to develop their skills and navigate their educational journey.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying challenges and addressing them collaboratively.
  • Maintain compliance with KAMS RTO standards and engage in ongoing professional development.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual who meets the following criteria:

  • Qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling.
  • Experience in a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or educational institution.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills, with a strong understanding of the complexities faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Current National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one.
  • A local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person with established regional connections is highly regarded.

Salary & Benefits

This position offers a base salary of $102,760 per annum pro rata, along with additional benefits, including:

  • Accommodation Allowance of $13,000 per annum pro rata
  • Annual Airfare of $1,285 per annum (after 12 months of service)
  • District Allowance of $2,920 (single) or $5,840 (double) per annum pro rata
  • Electricity Allowance of $1,440 per annum pro rata
  • Relocation reimbursement up to $5,000 (upon providing receipts)
  • Optional Salary Sacrifice up to $30,000 per annum pro rata
