Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) serves as the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Since its establishment in 1986, KAMS has been dedicated to providing a unified voice for Aboriginal health and well-being, delivering essential resources, and advocating for the needs of its member organisations.

With a vision that empowers all Kimberley Aboriginal people to be strong, healthy, and connected through community-controlled services, KAMS is committed to delivering holistic health and well-being outcomes in collaboration with Aboriginal-led organisations, firmly rooted in Aboriginal culture and knowledge.

Position Overview

The KAHRA Project Coordinator will be based in Broome on a Part-time 10 month Fixed-Term Contract. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating and supporting the Kimberley Aboriginal Health Planning Forum (KAHPF) Research Subcommittee. This position ensures the implementation of best practises in research within the region and facilitates the effective dissemination and utilisation of Kimberley Aboriginal health research findings to achieve KAHRA’s objectives.

As a founding member of the Kimberley Aboriginal Health Research Alliance (KAHRA), the Coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders to enhance the health and well-being of Aboriginal people in the Kimberley through culturally appropriate and community-led health research.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to Aboriginal health and community development, along with the skills necessary to foster productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Population Health, Epidemiology, Health Management, or related fields with a demonstrated research component.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with key partners to achieve common goals.
  • In-depth understanding of Kimberley Aboriginal communities and their cultural contexts.
  • Strong organisational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies and a commitment to decolonising research practises.
  • Experience in creating engaging content for websites and social media to promote Aboriginal health research.
  • A current C class driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
  • Current National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one.

Preference will be given to candidates who are local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples with established connections to the region, as well as those with experience in promoting research within Aboriginal communities.

Salary and Benefits

The base salary for this position is $102,760 per annum (pro rata), complemented by:

  • Accommodation Allowance of $13,000 per annum (pro rata)
  • District Allowance of $2,920 (single) or $5,840 (double) per annum (pro rata)
  • Electricity Allowance of $1,440 per annum (pro rata)
  • Opportunity to salary sacrifice up to $30,000 per annum (pro rata)
