Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) serves as the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Since our establishment in 1986, KAMS has provided a unified voice for Aboriginal health and well-being, advocating for community needs and delivering centralised resources in partnership with our Member Services.

Our vision is to empower all Kimberley Aboriginal people to be strong, healthy, and connected through culturally appropriate community-controlled services. Position Overview

The School Health Nurse will be based in Broome on a Full-time basis. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating and delivering school health services to children aged 4-17 years within the communities we serve. This position requires a dedicated professional who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team while engaging with various stakeholders, including schools, health agencies, and community organisations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based health care to children and families in line with KAMS Model of Care.
  • Deliver school-based health education and preventive health programs, including routine immunisations.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement effective child health programs.
  • Collect and analyse health data to monitor the quality of health services and inform improvements.
  • Engage with the community to raise awareness of health issues and promote health literacy.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and a deep understanding of the health challenges faced by these communities.

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience in school health services within Indigenous primary health care settings.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions for diverse audiences.
  • Current WA driver’s licence and willingness to travel to remote locations.
  • National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one. 

Salary & Benefits

The role offers a competitive base salary of $123,901 per annum pro rata, alongside various benefits including:

  • Accommodation Allowance of $13,000 per annum pro rata
  • Annual Airfare of $1,285 per annum (after 12 months of service)
  • District Allowance of $2,149 (single) or $4,298 (double) per annum pro rata
  • Electricity Allowance of $1,440 per annum pro rata
  • Optional Salary Sacrifice up to $30,000 per annum pro rata
