Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS was formed to provide a unified voice for Aboriginal health and wellbeing, and to deliver centralised resources and collective advocacy in partnership with its Member Services. KAMS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of Aboriginal health leaders from across its Member Services.

Our vision is that all Kimberley Aboriginal people are empowered to be strong, healthy, and connected through Aboriginal community-controlled services. 

Our purpose is to deliver holistic health and wellbeing outcomes in partnership with Aboriginal-led organisations, centred around Aboriginal culture and knowledge.

KAMS is a proud member of the Aboriginal Health Council of WA (AHCWA), the Council of Aboriginal Services Western Australia (CASWA), and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO).

Position Summary

The connected beginnings nurse will be required to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering culturally appropriate primary health care services, tailored to the needs of the community and to ensure the effective delivery of a broad range of clinical and population health services including child and maternal health services. This role will embed robust Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities across its service delivery and business practices.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake a range of responsibilities including:

  • Provide culturally appropriate primary health care services including maternal and child health care and chronic disease prevention, detection and management and to support access to GP, specialist and allied and other health professionals
  • Identify risk factors including social and environmental factor’s that make some children more likely to experience poorer outcomes
  • Identify gaps and work collaboratively with service providers, local community council and organisations in Bidyadanga, to deliver relevant, appropriate and effective maternal and child health programs.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships and networks with key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to planning forums, steering groups and consultancies in order to assist with local child and maternal health program development and priority setting.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
  • WA Immunisation Certificate or willing to obtain.
  • Current WA working with children check or willing to obtain.
  • Experience in the planning, provision, management and evaluation of maternal and child health services within an Indigenous primary health care setting.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of KAMS Model of care and issues affecting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Salary & Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary of $123,901, along with a range of attractive benefits including:

  • District Allowance: $2,149 per annum pro rata
  • Annual Airfare of $1,285 per annum pro rata (after 12 months continuous service).
  • Accommodation allowance of $13,000 per annum pro rata 
  • Electricity Allowance of $1,440 per annum pro rata 
  • Optional Salary Sacrifice up to $30,000 per annum pro rata
