Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS was formed to provide a unified voice for Aboriginal health and wellbeing, and to deliver centralised resources and collective advocacy in partnership with its Member Services. KAMS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of Aboriginal health leaders from across its Member Services.
Our vision is that all Kimberley Aboriginal people are empowered to be strong, healthy, and connected through Aboriginal community-controlled services.
Our purpose is to deliver holistic health and wellbeing outcomes in partnership with Aboriginal-led organisations, centred around Aboriginal culture and knowledge.

Position Summary
This position will be responsible for providing high level primary health care in midwifery. This includes providing antenatal and postnatal care in coordination with existing service providers for women in the communities they are employed in. The role extends to collaboration with service providers, stakeholders and families to provide culturally appropriate education sessions about maternal and child health care. This includes finding acceptable and innovative ways to improve access and health outcomes within the communities.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake a range of responsibilities including:
- Offering lifestyle advice, including nutrition, exercise, and managing chronic conditions.
- Screening for genetic conditions, infections, and immunisation status.
- Conduct thorough antenatal assessments and care that encompass the physical, psychological, cultural, and spiritual needs and expectations of women through their pregnancy journey by:
- Assessment and diagnosis in collaboration with the obstetrics team and/or GP when needed
- Ordering and analyzing imaging and pathology collaborating with GP and/or obstetric team when needed
- Collection of pathology when required
- Refer pregnant women to other specialists or general practitioners when necessary
- Provide support to women and their newborns for up to 6/8 weeks post-delivery, either at home or in the clinic.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Midwife and Registered Nurse.
- Demonstrated advanced clinical experience, knowledge, and leadership in midwifery care within the anteatal and postnatal period
- Well-developed clinical critical thinking skills, including conceptual and analytical ability.
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislative and health regulating Acts, including legislative obligations relating to midwifery practice
- Current WA driver's licence and willingness to travel independently.

Salary & Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary of $123,901, along with a range of attractive benefits including:
- District Allowance: $2,149 per annum pro rata
- Annual Airfare of $1,285 per annum pro rata (after 12 months continuous service).
- Accommodation allowance of $13,000 per annum pro rata
- Electricity Allowance of $1,440 per annum pro rata
- Optional Salary Sacrifice up to $30,000 per annum pro rata
