headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation.  Their primary focus is the mental health and wellbeing of all young Australians and they know that getting help early is the key to resolving these problems quickly.  Headspace is making a difference where it's need most - with Australia's young people.

Headspace Broomis focused on providing young people aged 12 - 25 with support and advice for a range of issues.  They provide free services including Counselling, Doctor's Clinics and Sexual Health Clinics.

Position Overview

As the Cultural Lead at headspace Broome, you will play a pivotal role in supporting First Nations young people aged 12-25 and their families in accessing the services they need. This is your opportunity to enhance cultural security and engagement, ensuring that our services are not only accessible but culturally respectful and responsive.

In this role, you will be instrumental in guiding the headspace team in the implementation of the Cultural Security Framework and the recommendations from the Our Journey, Our Story research project. You will foster relationships with young people, community Elders, and key stakeholders to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and motivated to engage with our services.

If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, we want to hear from you! The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of experience, cultural knowledge, and interpersonal skills.

  • Aboriginality is a fundamental requirement for this role, aligning with the 50D Equal Opportunity Act.
  • A qualification or significant experience in youth work, Aboriginal health, or related health fields.
  • Deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and social and emotional wellbeing frameworks.
  • Proven experience in engaging with Aboriginal young people and their families in mental health or wellbeing contexts.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build respectful relationships within the community.
  • Understanding of the impacts of colonisation and intergenerational trauma on health and wellbeing.
  • Experience in quality improvement processes and reflective practise in service delivery.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team while also being self-driven.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the needs of a youth-focused mental health service.
  • Willingness to travel regionally or nationally and hold a current WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Compliance with organisational requirements including a National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.

Salary & Benefits

For your hard work and dedication to this role, you will receive a base salary of $102,760 per annum pro rata + super. 

In addition to this salary, you will have access to a further host of benefits, including:

  • Accommodation allowance of $13,000;
  • Electricity allowance of $1,440 p.a;
  • District allowance of $2,920 p.a. (single) or $5,840 p.a. (double)
  • Salary packaging options up to $30,000 per annum.
