About the Organisation

Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community (La Grange) is located on the Kimberley coast in Western Australia, 1590 kilometres from the capital city of Perth and 180 kilometres from Broome.

​The recognised traditional owners of the land are the Karajarri people.

​Bidyadanga is the largest remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia with a population of approximately 850 residents and is home to the Karajarri, Juwalinny, Mangala, Nyungamarta and Yulpartja language groups.

Rich in history, art and culture and with a developing economy, Bidyadanga has many community facilities and infrastructure to support community's people.

The word Bidyadanga comes from a word for "emu watering hole" (pijarta or bidyada).Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community La Grange Inc (BACLG) was incorporated in 1975 as a not-for-profit organisation to administer government-funded programs such as the Daycare service, Municipal Services, and agencies of Centrelink and Australia Post, for the community. A Council of community representatives governs the organisation.

The Council is comprised of two members of each of the five language groups that reside in Bidyadanga. Council elections are held every three years.

About the Opportunity

Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community (La Grange) now has an opportunity for a Health Centre Coordinator to join their friendly, multidisciplinary team in Bidyadanga Community, on a full time basis, roster 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off. Reporting to the Health Centre Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive primary health care service within the Bidyadanga Health Centre and surrounding community. This position will also be required to provide management and leadership responsibilities as Acting Health Centre Manager whilst the Health Centre Manager is on leave.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • In conjunction with the Health Centre Manager, actively monitor and coordinate the daily activity of the health centre team/s
  • Organise staff for routine morning meetings and allocation of daily activities
  • Manage the clinic recall list or delegate its management as appropriate
  • Manages any emergency presentations and/or urgent recalls
  • Participating in an on-call roster to provide a 24/7 emergency care service.

Please note: It is a requirement that successful candidates hold a current WA Working With Children Check, and be willing to undergo a National Police Check prior to employment with Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community (La Grange).

What you'll need to be successful

We are seeking a passionate and skilled individual who embodies the values of BACLG and is dedicated to making a difference. If you are a Remote Area Nurse or an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with a heart for community health, this opportunity is for you!
  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse or Aboriginal Health Practitioner with at least 5 years of post-graduate experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of comprehensive primary health care delivery, including emergency care.
  • Strong understanding of the ACCHO Model of Care and commitment to the principles of Aboriginal community-controlled health services.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with Aboriginal people and community members.
In addition to your clinical expertise, you will demonstrate leadership capabilities, effectively manage daily operations, and support the development of your team. Your role will include coordinating programs, overseeing patient care, and ensuring a high standard of service delivery in line with BACLG policies and protocols.

Please note: Due to the frequent travel required, you will need to hold a current, Manual Driver's Licence, and be comfortable travelling by 4WD or light aircraft as required.

  • On call loading (25% of base salary);
  • Isolation airfare of $2,000 to support your travel needs.
  • A $10,000 retention allowance after 2 years of continuous service, and every 12 months thereafter 
  • Accommodation provided whilst in the community.
