Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is a regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) that provides advocacy and support for a network of member ACCHS across the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS has grown to encompass multiple community health services, striving to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people in the Kimberley.

Our vision encompasses a commitment to quality preventative and primary healthcare services, advocacy on health issues, and the development of a skilled workforce, all while ensuring services are culturally appropriate and community-driven.

Position Summary

The School Health Nurse will play a pivotal role in the delivery and coordination of health services tailored for school-aged children in remote communities. This position is integral to fostering health education, promoting immunizations, and facilitating connections to specialist services for children aged 4-17 years, alongside their families and communities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake a range of responsibilities including:

• Providing evidence-based health care and education to children and families, aligned with the KAMS Model of Care and relevant health protocols.
• Engaging with key stakeholders to identify service gaps and collaboratively develop effective health programs.
• Conducting routine immunizations and promoting community health literacy regarding school health.
• Collecting and monitoring health data for reporting and evaluation purposes, contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
• Experience in managing and evaluating school health services in an Indigenous context.
• Strong understanding of the health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to deliver educational sessions to diverse audiences.
• Current WA driver's licence and willingness to travel independently.

Salary & Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary of $123,901, along with a range of attractive benefits including:

• District Allowance: $2,740
• Annual Airfare of $1,285 per annum pro rata (after 12 months continuous service).
• Accommodation provided whilst in community 
• Isolation Airfare of $2,000 reimbursement
• Retention Bonus of $10,000 after 2 years of continuous service and 12 months thereafter 
• Availability Allowance of 25% of base salary.
