Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is a regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) that provides advocacy and support for a network of member ACCHS across the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS has grown to encompass multiple community health services, striving to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people in the Kimberley.

Position Summary

The Connected Beginnings Nurse/Midwife plays a vital role in delivering tailored primary health care services to the community, focusing on maternal and child health. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring culturally appropriate practises and effective service delivery. This position involves planning, implementing, and evaluating health programs while fostering strong partnerships with local organisations and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake a range of responsibilities including:

  • Provide culturally appropriate primary health care services including maternal and child health care and chronic disease prevention, detection and management and to support access to GP, specialist and allied and other health professionals
  • Establish and strengthen partnerships and collaboration at the local, regional and national level to support, for example, cross-sectoral, holistic integrated care pathways
  • Assist with the planning, development and distribution of health promotion training and resources in maternal and child health for clients, the local community, and members of the health team.
  • Antenatal care services: provide advice about healthy eating and physical activity; referrals to other health services; referrals to support services; referrals to specialists; parenting advice; social and emotional wellbeing; and antenatal consultations;
  • Postnatal care services: breastfeeding support/information; parenting advice about providing supportive and nurturing healthy environments, nutrition and healthy eating support; and midwife consultations;
  • Collect relevant data and information pertaining to this position for reporting purposes as required by KAMS and relevant funding bodies.
  • Support staff in the use and application of information management systems relevant to maternal and child health, including the monitoring and maintenance of data quality.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Midwife and Registered Nurse.
  • WA Immunisation Certificate or willing to obtain.
  • Current WA working with children check or willing to obtain.
  • Current National police clearance or willing to obtain
  • Experience in the planning, provision, management and evaluation of maternal and child health services within an Indigenous primary health care setting.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of KAMS Model of care and issues affecting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively as part of a team.

Salary & Benefits

This position offers a competitive base salary of $123,901, along with additional benefits including a $13,000 accommodation allowance, $2,149 district allowance (single), $4,298 (double), $1,440 electricity allowance, plus superannuation and salary packaging! 

Please note: this role is only offered on a fixed term contract (covering parental leave) until May 2026.
