Occupational Therapist

Job No: KAMS1479
Location: Broome

Are you looking for a role where you can focus on meaningful, community-driven work rather than paperwork and targets? Are you passionate about making a real impact in the lives of Aboriginal families? Are you ready to bring your expertise to a vibrant, community-centred team? Do you want a job that sends you across the turquoise shores, the red pindan, and cascading waterfalls of the Kimberley?

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS) invites you to be part of something truly special, an innovative pilot program that is the first of it’s kind in Australia.

Why KAMS?

At KAMS, we’re more than just a health service – we’re a movement dedicated to empowering Aboriginal communities across the Kimberley region. Since 1986, we’ve been a beacon of support, providing culturally appropriate primary healthcare with a focus on social, emotional, and cultural wellbeing. Together, we work to make a positive difference in the lives of Aboriginal people.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a passionate Occupational Therapist to join our Remote Early Childhood Supports (RECS) team in Broome, WA. This is your chance to be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team delivering holistic, family-centered care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-9 and their families.

You’ll work in a beautiful part of the world while contributing to the growth and development of the next generation. Whether in the clinic, at home, or in the community, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of children through culturally responsive self-care, play, learning, sensory and motor interventions.

Your Role

As an Occupational Therapist in our RECS team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing and supporting children 0-9 years who have self-care, play, learning, sensory and motor difficulties
  • Provide culturally responsive assessment and intervention for families/children
  • Liaise with stakeholders, advocating for clients and building capacity for community
  • Working with the framework of a family, community and client centred practice, in our ACCHO, in the clinic, at family homes or in the community

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for a Bachelor or postgraduate degree in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Proven experience in assessing and managing communication difficulties in children
  • A passion for working in Aboriginal Health, with at least two years’ clinical experience
  • A strong commitment to community-controlled health services (ACCHOs)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
  • A high level of integrity and respect for confidentiality

Why You’ll Love It Here

Join a supportive, inclusive team committed to making a difference. In addition to a competitive salary of $127,769 per year, we offer:

  • Professional development opportunities
  • Wellness programs to support your health and wellbeing
  • 5 weeks of annual leave
  • Travel, electricity, and location allowance, as well as annual airfares, salary sacrifice options and more

Plus, the role comes with opportunities for travel and adventure in one of Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes.
