About the Opportunity
KAMS has a highly rewarding opportunity for a Senior Policy Officer to join our multidisciplinary team in Broome WA full time.
The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for providing strategic policy advice and project management support to the Aboriginal Regional Governance Group (ARGG) on policy matters pertaining to its four workstreams:
- Kimberley Aboriginal youth wellbeing (KAYW)
- Empowered Young Leaders (EYL)
- Kimberley Aboriginal suicide prevention (KASP)
- Kimberley Juvenile Justice Strategy (KJJS)
This role will report to the Senior Manager, Communications and will have membership to the KAMS Senior Management team. You will be required to maintain expert knowledge and awareness of issues, trends and legislative changes across national, state and regional policy issues relating to a range of health policy matters.
Some of your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Establish fit-for-purpose and best practice project management systems, policies, processes, and tools for the ARGG’s strategic priorities and deliverables, using a continuous quality improvement (CQI) approach
- Develop policy, partnership, and project implementation plans, ensuring clear governance structures, actions, timeframes, resources, responsibilities, reporting mechanisms, and risk mitigation strategies
- Work closely with the Senior Policy Officer (doc_3162) to review, evaluate, and operationalise the Partnership Agreement and Implementation Plan for KAYW and support the transition of the ARGG into the Kimberley Aboriginal Regional Body (KARB).
- Provide high-level policy and project support to the ARGG, including preparing reports, correspondence, policy advice, position papers, scoping documents, submissions, briefing notes, factsheets, and presentations
- Actively participate in the organisation’s QMS (LogiQC).
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to uphold and contribute to the organisation’s vision, purpose and values.

About You
To be considered for this position you will need to demonstrate/hold the following:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience in policy, project management, or a related field
- Strong understanding of the policy environment and key factors affecting the health and wellbeing of young Aboriginal people in the Kimberley
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality submissions, position papers, briefing notes, agenda papers, reports, and correspondence, with confidence and accuracy in communicating strategic priorities
- Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, and consultation skills, with the ability to proactively establish and sustain effective stakeholder relationships.
- High-level digital literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and digital communication tools.
In addition, it is a requirement that the successful candidate be willing to undergo a National Police Check prior to employment with KAMS and have their COVID vaccination.

- Accommodation Allowance of $13,000 per annum pro rata;

- Electricity Allowance of $1,440 per annum pro rata;
- Annual Airfares to the value of $1,285 pa (after 12 months of employment);
