About the Organisation

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services LTD (KAMS) is a well-established regional Aboriginal community controlled health service, founded in 1986, which provides centralised advocacy and resource support for 6 independent member services, as well as providing direct clinical services in a further 6 remote Aboriginal communities across the region.

KAMS has successfully delivered high-quality, accessible comprehensive primary health care services over its 22 years of operation and has provided innovation and national leadership in areas such as health information management and evidence based best practice in primary health care.

The Kimberley region is located in the northern part of Western Australia and covers about 421,000 square kilometres. The Kimberley has only three towns with a population of more than 2,000 (Broome, Derby and Kununurra), and the total population is around 37,000. In addition to the sealed Route 1 which runs along the southern part of the area, the unsealed Gibb River Road runs through the heart of the region from Derby to the highway near Kununurra. Access to much of the region is by dirt road, air or sea.

About Kimberley Supports

Kimberley Supports is an enhancement program funded by the NDIA to provide equity and equality to Aboriginal families that have disabilities living in the Kimberley, providing culturally secure referral pathways to access NDIS assistance and support systems to enrich their lives.

The program includes early childhood development support for Aboriginal children aged 0-7 years of age. The Kimberley Supports Project officer is part of a multi-disciplinary including Early Childhood Development Allied Health staff, Child Health Nurses, Remote Family Support Workers and NDIS Evidence and Access Planners

About the Opportunity

KAMS now has an opportunity for a Regional Coordinator to join the Kimberley Supports team in Broome, WA, on a full-time basis. is responsible for leading and coordinating delivery of the Community Connector program across the region. The role provides leadership and support to Community Connector staff employed by consortium member services and plays a key role in strengthening partnerships with communities, ACCHSs, ACCOs, local stakeholders, and the NDIA to improve outcomes for Kimberley Aboriginal people living with disability.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust with stakeholders.
• Experience working with, or sound understanding of disability support systems.
• Project management skills including facilitation and resourcing of meetings and consultations.
• Ability to coordinate and support program staff embedded into partner organisations across the region.

The ideal candidate will have a Qualification in Aboriginal Health Work, Community Development, Disability, Health Promotion, or related discipline.  You'll also require demonstrated commitment to the principles of Aboriginal Community Control and demonstrated knowledge of cultural safety principles and practices

Ideally, you would have experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation or an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community Organisation.
