A New National Architecture

The Indigenous Centre of Vocational Excellence (ICOVE) is a First Nations-led national initiative established under the Australian Government's National Skills Agreement and aligned with Closing the Gap reforms.

Delivered in partnership between Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS) and Tranby Aboriginal Co-operative, ICOVE has been created to strengthen how the vocational education and training (VET) system works for First Nations people through stronger partnerships, capability building, innovation and policy leadership.

The Role: Turning Research Into Better Policy

KAMS / ICOVE is seeking a Policy Officer to join its growing national team, working remotely from anywhere in Australia

Reporting to the Director of Policy, you'll support ICOVE's Policy & Advocacy function through research, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement and project coordination.

Working closely with the Director and Principal Policy Officer, you'll contribute to policy papers, submissions, briefing notes and research that helps inform national conversations and strengthen First Nations vocational education outcomes.

Here's What You'll Be Working On

As Policy Officer, you'll support ICOVE's Policy & Advocacy team through research, analysis, stakeholder engagement and project coordination.

In this role, you'll:

• Undertake research and analyse information that supports evidence-based policy development
• Prepare policy papers, briefing notes, reports and submissions
• Monitor emerging policy developments and identify issues relevant to First Nations vocational education and training
• Support stakeholder consultation and engagement activities across government, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and the broader sector
• Build productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and maintain project documentation
• Support monitoring, evaluation and reporting across policy initiatives
• Work collaboratively across ICOVE to deliver projects that contribute to nationally significant reform

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

• Demonstrated experience in policy, research, analysis or a related field
• Strong written communication skills, including preparing reports, briefing papers or submissions
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
• The ability to build productive relationships with a range of stakeholders
• Relevant qualifications in Public Policy, Social Sciences, Law, Education, Community Development, Indigenous Studies or a related discipline, OR equivalent demonstrated experience

The following experience will also be highly regarded:

• Experience working within government, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), education, research or the VET sector
• Knowledge of government policy processes or the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector
• Experience supporting policy, research or consultation projects

Above all, you'll be collaborative, adaptable and solutions-focused, with the ability to work independently while remaining connected to a national remote team.
