A New National Architecture

The Indigenous Centre of Vocational Excellence (ICOVE) is a First Nations-led national initiative established under the Australian Government's National Skills Agreement and aligned with Closing the Gap reforms.

Delivered in partnership between Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS) and Tranby Aboriginal Co-operative, ICOVE has been created to strengthen how the vocational education and training (VET) system works for First Nations people through stronger partnerships, capability building, innovation and policy leadership.

As ICOVE continues to grow, every initiative, partnership and success story contributes to improving outcomes for First Nations learners, communities and organisations across Australia.

Create the Voice That Brings the Mission to Life

KAMS / ICOVE is seeking a Director - Media & Communications to join its growing national team, working remotely from anywhere in Australia.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer,  you'll establish and grow ICOVE's communications function—developing the organisation's voice, strengthening its brand and creating engaging communications that connect communities, build relationships and showcase nationally significant work.

Working collaboratively across ICOVE, KAMS and Tranby, you'll transform projects, partnerships and achievements into compelling stories that build awareness, strengthen relationships and celebrate impact.

Here's What You'll Be Working On

As Media & Communications Director, you'll establish ICOVE's communications function while building awareness, strengthening the organisation's brand and sharing stories that showcase its impact.

  • Develop and implement ICOVE's communications and media strategy to support organisational priorities and national engagement
  • Establish a consistent, culturally respectful brand and communications presence across digital, media and stakeholder channels
  • Create engaging content including media releases, newsletters, publications, website content and social media campaigns
  • Develop communication resources that showcase ICOVE's projects, partnerships, research and impact
  • Build productive relationships with media, government, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), education providers and other key stakeholders
  • Coordinate campaigns, events and communication activities that strengthen awareness and engagement
  • Guide the development of visual content including photography, graphics and multimedia that supports ICOVE's brand
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen ICOVE's national profile while helping establish the organisation's communications function as it continues to grow

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience developing communication strategies and creating engaging content across multiple platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences
  • Experience managing websites, social media and digital communication channels
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Relevant qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Media or a related discipline

The following experience will also be highly regarded:

  • Experience working within Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) or the broader community-controlled sector
  • Photography, videography and graphic design capability
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communication protocols and culturally respectful engagement
  • Experience building productive relationships across government, community and partner organisations
