KAMS is looking for a full-time Child Health Nurse based in Broome, WA. Reporting to the Remote Services Manager, you will coordinate and deliver child health services to Aboriginal children aged 0–5 across Broome and surrounding communities, aligned with the KAMS Model of Care.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing scheduled developmental health checks and childhood immunisations
  • Facilitating recalls, screenings, and follow-ups
  • Providing case management for at-risk children and coordinating specialist referrals
  • Promoting uptake of the Kimberley Maternal & Child Health Protocols
  • Delivering education, training and mentoring to staff and community members
  • Supporting women’s groups, parenting, and mums & bubs programs
  • Contributing to child health data collection, monitoring and reporting
  • Participating in planning forums and community awareness activities
  • Travelling to remote communities, including Beagle Bay and Bidyadanga, as required

Who are we looking for?

To be considered, you must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with current AHPRA registration and hold a postgraduate qualification in Child Health. While experience in Aboriginal health or remote settings is highly regarded, we welcome applications from qualified RNs with a passion for transitioning into community-based child health.

Additionally, you will need:

  • Experience delivering child or maternal health services in a Primary Health Care setting
  • Understanding of Aboriginal health issues in remote WA communities
  • Skills in community-based health promotion and health education
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and clinical databases
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural competency skills 
  • A current WA Working with Children Clearance and National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain)
  • A manual WA C Class Driver’s Licence (or ability to obtain) and willingness to travel frequently by 4WD or light aircraft

Four-wheel drive experience is not required – training will be provided if you hold a manual licence

  • Location allowance of $2,149 (single) or $4,298 (dependant)
