About the Opportunity

Kimberley Renal Services now has an opportunity for a dedicated Vascular Access Nurse to join their KRS team in Broome, WA, on a full-time basis. 

Reporting to the Kimberley Renal Services Executive Manager, you will provide direct services in the Kimberley to ensure access for clients to timely pre dialysis coordination, education and care. Furthermore, this position will coordinate and maintain the access surgical list for KRS in consultation with KRS Pre Dialysis Coordinators and Royal Perth Hospital staff.

Some of your key responsibilities will include;

  • Educate patients and family on various access types required to enable renal replacement therapy to take place.
  • Manage referrals and provide vascular access education in a systematic and timely manner, through nephrology clinics.
  • In collaboration with the primary health provider, coordinate the care of patients requiring dialysis access surgery.
  • Assist and attend the renal specialist clinics across the Kimberley and participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Work closely with the Renal Services Managers, Pre dialysis coordinators, medical, local health services to provide vascular access requirement within the region.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will need to be eligible for national registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), along with advanced renal clinical skills and experience in the renal field (including acute and in centre dialysis).

In this fast-paced role, you must have the ability to function effectively in emergency and high-stress situations in a changing work environment, while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and work ethic. You will also have well-developed interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills. Competency in the use of computer programs is required.

You will also be committed to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control, acting in a culturally appropriate manner at all times.

While not essential, candidates with at least a Postgraduate nephrology qualification or working towards a Certificate in Nephrology will be held in high regard.

Please note: To be eligible for this role, you will be required to hold a current ‘C’ Class Driver’s License. Your employment will also be subject to a National Police Clearance.

For your hard work and dedication, you will receive an attractive salary of $100,959 per annum pro rata plus super. In addition, you will benefit from accommodation allowance of $13,000 per annum pro rata and annual airfares (after 12 months of employment) to the value of $1,285 pro rata

About Kimberley Renal Services

Kimberley Renal Services (KRS) includes 4 Renal Health Centres based in Fitzroy Crossing, Broome, Kununurra, and Derby and a mobile prevention unit.

The incidence of Kidney Disease in the Kimberley is one of the highest in Australia. Chronic Kidney disease (CKD) and End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) incidence within the Aboriginal population of the Kimberley greatly exceeds the national burden of disease. Dialysis prevalence for this region has more than tripled in the last decade and is increasing at a much faster rate than in the rest of Western Australia (WA).

KRS and the regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) have developed a renal strategic plan to help combat this health crisis. This has enabled many patients to return to the Kimberley from Perth, which is 2,500kms away, to receive their treatment.
